Ukrainian biathlete Serguei Sednev has been banned for two years by an IBU Anti-Doping panel after he tested positive for recombinant EPO at an out-of-competition test on January 22, 2013.
The panel’s decision is available on the IBU website here: http://www4.biathlonworld.com/media/pdf/presse/2015-04-24_d679d81c1b66cc3.pdf
Sednev had been suspended provisionally as of December 15, 2014 by the IBU, and his two year suspension takes effect from that date. In addition, all of his competition results from January 22, 2013 have been disqualified.
The 2 year ban will have no practical impact on Sednev as he indicated in a letter (presumably written following his suspension) that he had decided to retire from biathlon.
Sednev denied doping, while acknowledging that he has no evidence or explanation of how the recombinant EPO ended up in his system.
