Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle will be eligible for the start of the biathlon season later this month after having her doping ban reduced from 2 years to 6 months.
Sachenbacher-Stehle tested positive for methylhexanamine at the Olympics on 17 February 2014, and was given a 2 year ban by an IBU antidoping panel. She appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS“), which issued a ruling today that reduced the ban to 6 months, retroactive to February 17th. The CAS also awarded Ms. Sachenbacher costs in the amount of 7,500 Swiss Francs.
However, all of her competitive results during the 6-month ineligible period are forfeited, including her 4th place finish in the Mass Start at the Olympics.
According to the CAS, the reasons for the decision will be announced “in due course”.
