Nathan Smith and Marina Korovina won each of the Sprint competitions at IBU Cup 6 in Canmore, Canada last weekend.
Saturday’s Sprints (Men’s results, Women’s results) were very close finishes. Smith edged out Sergey Klyachin (+5.0) and Martin Eng (+6.6) as each competitor had one penalty loop. Korovina beat out Carolin Hennecke (+2.5) and Juliane Döll (+9.1), all shooting clean.
On Sunday (Men’s results, Women’s results) Smith put some distance between himself and the field, shooting clean to finish 41.4 seconds ahead of Friedrich Pinter (one penalty) and 42.9 seconds ahead of Bendikt Döll (three penalties). Korovina again had to fight hard to come out on top, with Maren Hammerschmidt in second (+15.1, on penalties) and Canada’s Yolaine Oddou in third (+16.4, one penalty).
IBU Cup 6 was a great event for the host nation, as Nathan Smith won the first ever IBU Cup gold medals for Canada, and Yolaine Oddou was the first female Canadian to land on the podium in the IBU Cup.
The IBU Cup circuit remains in Canmore for a few more days, with IBU Cup 7 on February 15 and 16 with an Individual competition and a Sprint competition.
