Martin Fourcade Wins the First World Cup Competition of the Season

Martin Fourcade had a perfect start to his season today with a victory in the Men’s 20km Individual. Fourcade was in a class of his own, finishing almost two minutes ahead of his closest competitor, with one penalty in the final shooting stage.

Michal Slesingr came in second (1:54.3, one penalty) and Simon Schempp was third (1:54.5, one penalty). Here is the IBU writeup and the complete results for the competition.

There were some strong North American performances, with Lowell Bailey tying his career-best result with a ninth place finish (2:57.4, two penalties). JP Le Guellec had the best Canadian result in 14th (3:12.4, two penalties) and Jay Hakkinen was in 18th (3:32.6, two penalties).

Tim Burke was 58th (6:17.5, five penalties), Leif Nordgren 64th (6:31.3, four penalties), Scott Perras 68th (6:47.4, four penalties), Brendan Green 72nd (7:16.8, four penalties) and Scott Gow 101st (10:28.2, four penalties).

Tomorrow is the Women’s 15km Individual at 11:15 Eastern, 8:15 Pacific. Here is the start list.

Laura Spector is bib 2, Sara Studebaker is bib 29, Zina Kocher is bib 40, Susan Dunklee is bib 51, Megan Imrie is bib 62, Rosanna Crawford is bib 80 and Lanny Barnes is bib 89.
