It’s a Wrap! Fak and Dalhmeier Close 2014/2015 Season with Mass Start Victories

Jakov Fak and Laura Dahlmeier ended the 2014/2015 season on the highest of notes, winning gold in the Men’s and Women’s Mass Start competitions in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

The final three crystal globes were also decided, with Anton Shipulin and Franziska Preuss winning the Mass Start titles and Darya Domracheva securing the Total Score title. It was Shipulin and Preuss’ first globes, and Domracheva’s first Total Score title.

Fak hit all 20 targets en route to his victory, the only competitor in the field to do so. Shipulin (2 penalties) held off Tarjei Boe (1 penalty) in a final lap sprint to secure the Mass Start title. Nathan Smith finished an excellent season with a 17th place finish, and Leif Nordgren was 24th.

Dahlmeier and Gabriela Soukalova also shot 20/20, but it was Dahlmeier who had the most left in the tank on the final lap to pull away from Soukalova, who finished second. Third place went to Marie Dorin Habert, adding one more medal in addition to her collection of World Championships medals.

Susan Dunklee finished 19th and Hannah Dreissigacker was 26th, while Rosanna Crawford was caught up in a huge first lap crash and was unable to continue.

With the season now complete, the athletes will surely be enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation!
