The first competition of IBU World Cup 3 begins tomorrow with the Women’s Relay at 5:15 Pacific, 8:15 Eastern.
There is a lot of anticipation for this event as it will be the first time the World Cup has been at le Grand Bornand, and the first World Cup-level biathlon event in France since the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville.
To give fans a glimpse of le Grand Bornand, the IBU has written an article with some photos, and has enlisted the help of French star Marie Laure Brunet to make a video of the 2km course loop. The scenery around the venue looks amazing, with chalets everywhere and gorgeous mountains. If the sunny weather continues during the competitions it is going to look awesome. The track has a lot of twists and turns, which are features that I really enjoy seeing in a course.
With the strength of the French high performance biathlon team, it is surprising that it has taken this long to host a World Cup biathlon event in France. It is great to see that they have been able to get an organizing committee and a group of officials together to host an event at the highest level. I wish them all a great event, and am excited to have a new biathlon venue on the circuit!
