IBU Cup #2 Review

IBU Cup #2 was held in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, Italy last weekend. The event featured an Individual and Sprint competitions.

The Women’s Individual was won by Anastasia Zagoruiko, who shot clean. Paulina Bobak also shot clean, finishing 20.1 back in second place. Third place went to Ekaterina Glazyrina, 56.9 back with one penalty.

Tracy Barnes had a strong 8th place showing, 1:12.8 back with one penalty. Yolaine Oddou also had a great start to her international career with a 19th place finish, 3:24.4 back with one penalty.

Megan Heinicke (32nd, +5:05.3, four penalties), Annalies Cook (38th, +5:39.9, six penalties), Melanie Schultz (44th, +6:01.3, four penalties) and Claude Godbout (50th, +6:41.2, five penalties) were the other North American competitors.

Jean Guillaume Beatrix won the Men’s Individual, despite two penalties. Alexey Volkov was second, 20.2 seconds back with two penalties, and third place went to Sergey Klyachin, 26.6 behind with one penalty.

Scott Gow was 20th (+2:58.3, two penalties) and Tyson Smith was 27th (+3:25.3, two penalties).

Bill Bowler, Jeremy Teela, Aaron Gillmor and Nathan Smith did not start the competition, which featured an incredible 136 athletes.

Sabrina Buchholz won the Women’s Sprint with one penalty. Ekaterina Shumilova finished second, 8.2 seconds back with one penalty. Nadine Horchler was third, 13.7 seconds back, also with one penalty.

Melanie Schultz came in 19th, 1:30.1 back with clean shooting. Yolaine Oddou was 32nd (+2:01.0, two penalties), Annalies Cook was 36th (+2:11.2, four penalties) and Claude Godbout was 72nd (+3:42.1, four penalties).

Italy’s Mattia Cola secured the only podium spot for the home nation with a victory in the Men’s Sprint, shooting clean. Frode Andresen came in second, 24.1 back with two penalties. Martin Eng was third, 25.8 back with one penalty.

Nathan Smith finished 29th (+1:40.1, two penalties), Jeremy Teela was 30th (+1:41.3, one penalty), Scott Gow was 46th (+2:04.7, three penalties) and Tyson Smith was 86th (+3:38.9, four penalties). Bill Bowler and Aaron Gillmor did not start.

IBU Cup #3 takes place in Obertilliach, Austria and kicks off with a Mixed Relay competition on the 14th.
