Canada’s good start to the IBU Cup season continued last weekend in Beitostolen, Norway, with podium performances from Brendan Green and Audrey Vaillancourt. IBU Cup 2 featured the first Individual competition of the IBU Cup season on Friday and a Sprint competition on the Saturday. Russia’s Olga Podchufarova won the Women’s Individual (IBU article, results), only 5.3 seconds ahead of her compatriot Valentina Nazarova. Olga Abramova of the Ukraine was third, 44.8 seconds back. Lanny Barnes was 18th, Vaillancourt was 34th, Claude Godbout 42nd and Julia Ransom was 62nd.
Benedikt Doll was the winner of the Men’s Individual (IBU article, results), finishing 1:27.7 ahead of Green. Maxim Tchoudov was third. Scott Gow finished 20th, while Christian Gow was 31st, Jay Hakkinen 50th, Macx Davies 62nd and Marc-Andre Bedard 69th.
Svetlana Sleptsova was the winner in the Women’s Sprint (results), with Nazarova again in second place. Vaillancourt was 27.6 seconds off the pace after shooting clean. Julia Ransom turned in her best performance yet with a 14th place finish with one penalty. Lanny Barnes was 16th and Claude Godbout was 36th.
Doll won his second victory in a row in the Men’s Sprint (results), 15.3 seconds ahead of Lars Berger and 25.3 seconds ahead of Erlend Bjoentegaard. Marc-Andre Bedard cracked the top ten with a 9th place finish, 1:10.2 back with two penalties. Brendan Green was 28th, Jay Hakkinen was 44th, Macx Davies was 45th, Scott Gow was 52nd and Christian Gow was 86th.
