Spring is here and the snow is melting (finally), but that doesn’t mean that you have to wait until winter for the biathlon action to resume.
The IBU has released its Summer Biathlon schedule for 2011, which includes cross biathlon events and roller biathlon events.
Cross biathlon is a combination of cross country running and target shooting, and roller biathlon is a combination of roller skiing and target shooting. For those of you who will be in or around the Sea-to-Sky corridor this summer, you can try out either one of these sports at Whistler Olympic Park (or just try shooting without the running or skiing!)
The 2011 IBU Summer Calendar kicks off with the Asian Championships Summer Biathlon on May 25 – June 1, from Taschkent, Uzbekistan.
Next, there are two Cross Biathlon events. IBU Cross Cup 1 will be held on 8-10 July from Haanja, Estonia. IBU Cross Cup 2 will be held on 15-17 July from Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia.
The IBU Summer Biathlon Open European Championships will be held on 20-24 July from Martell-Val Martello, Italy.
Next, there are three roller biathlon events. IBU Roller Cup 1 will be held on 19-21 August from Kontiolahti, Finland. IBU Roller Cup 2 will be held on 26-28 August from Ostrov, Russia. IBU Roller Cup 3 will be held on 16-18 September, at a location to be announced.
The 2011 Summer Biathlon season will conclude at the Summer Biathlon World Championships, held on 20-25 September from Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
