Fourcade Wins Second Gold in Men’s Individual

Martin Fourcade won his second gold medal of these Olympic Games in the Men’s 20km Individual today. Fourcade had one penalty in his first standing shooting, but was clean the rest of the way and skied to a 12.2 second victory over clean shooting Erik Lesser. Russia’s Evgeniy Garanichev was third, 34.5 seconds back with one penalty.

Lowell Bailey had a great competition, coming in 8th place, 1:25.7 back with one penalty. Brendan Green was 21st, Nathan Smith 25th, JP Le Guellec 35th, Tim Burke 44th, Russell Currier 50th, Scott Perras 59th and Leif Nordgren 83rd.

The strong performances of the North American men means that for the first time there will be 5 participants from Canada and the USA in an Olympic Mass Start competition. Nathan Smith, JP Le Guellec, Brendan Green, Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke will all be in the start blocks for the main event of the Men’s Olympic biathlon competitions.

The Men’s Mass Start is on Sunday at 10:00 Eastern, 7:00 Pacific.
