Recently, I have written about the financial challenges faced by biathletes in Canada as they prepare for the Olympics. Now, biathlon in Britain is in the news as their financial situation is dire.
On Saturday the BBC reported that the British Biathlon Union (the “BBU“) does not have the funds to continue operating beyond the current season. Today, the BBU issued a statement on their website further explaining their financial situation and the reasons why they plan to cease operations on April 30, 2014.
How can you help? Well, first and foremost these guys need a corporate sponsor. But if you don’t have any control over sponsorships, you could send a message to the U.K. Government that biathlon is a sport worth supporting by going to the website of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and sending an email to the Secretary of State and the Minister. With all the money they had to spend on the Summer Olympics and with all the money that goes into football, you would hope that they could find the funds to keep their other Olympic sport programs in existence.
