Tarjei Boe and Tora Berger thrilled the Norwegian crowds by winning the Sprint competitions yesterday and today at IBU World Cup 7 in Holmenkollen.
Boe won the Men’s Sprint (results, IBU article) by the narrowest of margins, shooting clean and finishing just 0.1 seconds ahead of Martin Fourcade, who had two penalties. Andriy Deryzemlya finished third, 7.7 seconds back with no penalties.
Tim Burke was the top North American finisher in 32nd place, 1:48.8 back after 4(!) penalties, all in the standing position. Lowell Bailey (50th), Russell Currier (51st), Leif Nordgren (52nd) and Scott Perras (60th) also qualified for Saturday’s Pursuit. Scott Gow was 72nd and Sean Doherty was 85th.
Berger has been dominant all season, and today was no exception as she shot clean and skied to a 12 second victory over Darya Domracheva, who had two penalties. Anastasiya Kuzmina was third, 30.9 seconds back with two penalties.
Zina Kocher was the fastest North American to the line, 2:24.7 back with three penalties for a 42nd place finish. Annalies Cook was 46th, Megan Heinicke was 51st, Hanah Dreissigacker was 61st, Megan Imrie was 62nd, Sara Studbaker was 66th, Rosanna Crawford was 67th and Susan Dunklee was 70th.
