Berger and Fourcade Tighten Grip on Total Score Cups with Mass Start Victories

Tora Berger and Martin Fourcade were victorious in the Mass Start competitions at IBU World Cup 5 in Ruhpolding, extending their leads over their competitors for the Total Score Cup.

After 5 World Cup events, Berger and Fourcade hold commanding leads in the Women’s and Men’s Total Score Cup.

Berger missed one target in the first standing shooting but hit the rest on route to her victory in the Women’s Mass Start (results, IBU article), 26.7 seconds ahead of Darya Domracheva (two penalties) and 37.8 seconds ahead of Olga Zaitseva (one penalty).

Fourcade was perfect in the Men’s Mass Start (results, IBU article) but had to battle Dmitry Malyshko (one penalty) for the entire final lap to beat him in a sprint finish. Emil Hegle Svendsen turned on the afterburners on the final lap to beat out a pack for third place, 10.6 seconds back with two penalties. Tim Burke finished in 19th place (two penalties, +1:18.9) and Scott Perras was 26th (three penalties, +1:43.2).

The next World Cup event is in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy, which features Sprint, Pursuit and Relay competitions.
